5-Jan-2022 - BRITISH ISLES INDOOR BOWLS COUNCIL  STATEMENT

Following a meeting of the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council’s (BIIBC) Executive Committee held on Tuesday 4th January 2022, a decision was made to postpone all the scheduled  International events due to be held in February and March 2022.

This decision was arrived at due to the increasing numbers of  Omicron Variant Covid 19 cases within the U.K and the current restrictions put in place by the devolved Governments regarding  participation and spectator numbers permitted at indoor events.

It is the intention of the BIIBC to reschedule all events for October 2022 and a full revised calendar of events will be published as soon as possible.

The BIIBC apologise for any inconvenience this decision may cause, however the safety and welfare of all our players, officials and spectators must come first in any decision making process.

Further updates will be posted on the BIIBC website, should you require any further information please contact David Phillips, BIIBC Chief Executive Officer.

Age Limit Increased

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic which resulted in no competitions or international matches taking place during the 2020 -2021 season it was agreed to increase the “age” related internationals to Under 19 instead of Under 18 and Under 26 instead of Under 25. This will ensure that no player would miss out on the opportunity to represent their Country because they may have passed the age limit. This will apply for 1 year only.

Venues and dates for the International Series were agreed as follows:

Ladies Junior Under 26 International Series Newport IBC, Wales 12th & 13th February 2022

Warner Leisure Hotels End Sponsorship.

It is with regret that we report that Warner’s Leisure Hotels have ended their sponsorship of the BIIBC Senior Over 50’s International Series after 22 years, this is due to a combination of restructuring within the organisation and need to utilise their bowls halls for alternative usage to accommodate social distancing etc. The BIIBC would like to thank Warner’s for the support they have given to the BIIBC and bowls over this period.

It was agreed for this coming season not to hold the Senior Over 50’s International Series, however it is hoped to reintroduce the series when  the full financial impact of Covid 19 is known.

Life Membership of the BIIBC was bestowed on Maurice Mayes (England) for services to the BIIBC, Maurice will be presented with his Life Membership Certificate at a suitable venue in the coming season.

21 January 2021 - BIIBC STATEMENT

Following a meeting of the BIIBC Executive Committee held via zoom on Tuesday 19th January 2021 the following decisions were made:

“The Covid 19 pandemic is still having a major effect on all parts of the U.K. preventing any bowls being played apart from the C. Islands. Therefore National Associations are unable to complete their National Championships, the consequence being that the  BIIBC Championships postponed from March 2021 to October 2021 are now cancelled.

The complete BIIBC Calendar for the 2020 – 2021 season has been moved forward to the 2021 – 2022 season and the age events namely the Under 18 and Under 25 have been increased for one year only to Under 19 & Under 26, this is designed to give those players who may have missed out on the opportunity to represent their Country.

Calendar of Events 2021 – 2022 Season

Mixed Under 19 International Series     Ballybrakes, Ireland              9th & 10th October 2021

29 May 2020. DENNIS PETRIE.

It is with deep sadness that we have to report the death of long time SIBA Competitions Secretary, Dennis Petrie.

Dennis had been an integral part of the SIBA for the best part of forty years and served as Competitions Secretary from 1986 till giving up the post through ill health in September 2019.

Dennis was well known to all members of the BIIBC and followers around the world. Real Time Scoring was originally developed for the BIIBC by Dennis, and he and wife Doreen were always to be seen inputting data at the BIIBC events. The BIIBC owe Dennis much thanks for his masses of work over the years on their behalf.

Dennis leaves behind his devoted wife Doreen who has also had her health battles in recent years and our thoughts go to her at this sad time.
